  • Author: Ava McKenney
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup of jam 1x

Description

This Homemade Fig Jam is a sweet and versatile spread made with fresh figs, sugar, and a touch of lemon juice. Perfect for breakfast, cheese boards, or desserts, this easy recipe will elevate any dish with its rich, fruity flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh figs (Black Mission or Brown Turkey), washed and stems removed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (Optional)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon or nutmeg (Optional)
  • Lemon zest strips for extra flavor (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the figs, then remove the stems and chop them into small pieces.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the figs, sugar, lemon juice, and water. Stir to combine.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer.
  4. Mash the figs as they soften using a potato masher or the back of a spoon. Stir in any optional flavors like cinnamon, vanilla, or lemon zest.
  5. Allow the jam to simmer for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens. To test, place a small amount on a cold plate and check if it holds its shape.
  6. Remove the jam from heat and let it cool slightly. Transfer to a clean, sterilized jar and seal. Let it cool completely before refrigerating.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
  • For a stronger citrus flavor, add more lemon juice or zest.
  • This jam makes a wonderful pairing with cheese boards, toast, or baked goods.
